EFFECT OF UPSTREAM INCLINATION ON SEDIMENTATION FORMATION IN PNEUMATIC TRANSPORTATION

Prof.Ashok Kumar Mishra

Abstract

Formation of sediment in pneumatic transportation has been a serious problem in modern industries. This paper examines the Carsten's theory on sedimentformation for two-phase mixture flow to predict the effect of upstream inclination in the case of inclined pipe. The results show that the sedimentformation in the pipe first increases with increase in inclination angle and beyond 5, it decreases up to 7 and then again increases. So, the optimum angle for minimization of sediment formation is found to be 7. The sedimentformation in the pipe is governed by parabolic equation,y=-423.254+681.398х-228.144x', where 'y' is sedimentformed in grams and 'x' is the airflow rate in m²/sec.
