Abstract

Due to globalisation oftechnology, there is quality war among the manufacturers, which has become a key factor among customers for selection of the product. Process design plays a major role in the production of quality products. Process parameters (controllable factors) can be optimized by using design of experiments. But if controllable factors are of two categories i.e., hard-to-controlfactors & easy-to-controlfactors, then, optimum combination of process parameters can be obtained by using Split-Plot design. This paper has presented the application of Split-Plot Design to find optimum combination of hard-to-control & easy-tocontrol factors in an integrated steelplant to ultimately minimize the percentage rejections of semifinished steel products. The results ofthe experimental investigationusing Split-Plot design are analysed through ANOVA technique to identify the significant factors influencing the response i.e., percentage rejections & ultimately to obtain the optimum combination of factor levels.
