TRADITIONAL POST HARVEST STORAGE TECHNOLOGY IN ARID AREAS OF RAJASTHAN

R. Raj Bhansali

Abstract

Poorly resourced people of arid lands meet theirfood demand by adopting traditional seed and bulb storage methods. The process of seed storage also helps in reducing losses from pests and diseases. Infested/infected seeds loose the ability of makingfood stuff as well as cultivation purposes. Among storage fungi such as blue, black and green molds frequently destroy seed quality and germination ability. Farmers use to store seeds and bulbs in various types of storage structures. The seed storage structures, mixing with natural productsforprotecting themfrom pestand diseases largely contributefor conservingfood and planting materials of arid zone.
