Abstract

Six-Sigma is considered as a powerful business strategy for employing a well-structured continuous improvement methodology to effectively reduce process variability and increase quality in business processes using statistical tools .This paper describes a procedure that applies Six-Sigma approach at Samiri Engineering Pvt. Ltd, Thane to improve the productivity of spline cutting on gear hobbing machines. DMAIC methodology is used with the help of minitab14 software. Taguchi's DOE method is usedto improve the hobbing process.L9 design was adoptedfor investigating the effect of three parameters viz. speed, feed and hob angle on DOP variation. The results are graphically presented in main effect plot and interaction plot. Optimal values ofparameters are selected and trials were conducted. Process capability study showed improvement of hobbing process from 3-sigma to 6-sigma. Control plans are developed to sustain the improvement.
