Abstract
Companies are facing severe challenges in their business processes as they cannot afford to operate with wastes (Mudas) in their processes demanding the focus of lean concepts. This study will take into account the effects of this scenario to eliminate the various wastes encountered in the single phase assembly line of a manufacturing unit while plotting the current state value stream map (CSVSM) and the evaluation of the effectiveness of the seven value stream mapping (VSM) tools for the value stream analysis (VSA) of the said CSVSM. The findings of the study will focus on the effectiveness of seven VSM tools to interpret which type of VSM tool will be best suited to eliminate or reduce these wastes to figure out the lean improvements. The interpretations made during the study highlight the various future process improvements towards lean concept, in terms of quantitative data (like the reduction in supplier lead time and inventory level) through various lean initiatives.
