Abstract
In the fast changing world, society is looking towards leaders for vision, direction and motivation. Many leading business schools have leadership development embedded in their mission. As the world is facing challenging issues of sustainability, terrorism and depleting resources, the mankind is moving towards value based and moral leadership. Emphasis on service is emerging out as one of the key aspect of leadership. Servant leadership has evolved as one of the important value based concept in leadership. Educational is considered to be effective medium of change. Creating learning environment of future is one of the challenges for academicians. Controlled education environment shall no longer be encouraging the innovative mindsets. We need to create student centered learning environment which necessitates open and flexible learning environment. Teacher as facilitator has to play an immense role in shaping future of students. Students need to learn through self-reflection, wide ranged discussion and develop creativity through group activities. Students are required to be keen observers, exploratory performers and co-learners. Many scholars and educationalist have found servant leadership as a suitable leadership practice for ideal learning environment. Teachers with servant leadership behavior act as a facilitators, motivators and learning partners. There is no scope for inflated personal egos. This paper attempts to paint a suitable picture of servant Leadership on the canvas of contemporary education system.
