Abstract
Research work was carried out recently to find out the Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) status in construction industry of Mumbai and nearby areas. The study involved questionnaire survey conducted at over fifty construction sites. Despite existence of Indian safety codes and contractual obligations the construction sites were found to be deficient in enforcing the requirements. A comparative importance was recorded through a questionnaire comprising fifteen questions related to the environment, safety and health (EHS) conditions at the construction sites. The researcher met project managers, construction managers, staffs, safety officers, supervisors and labourers at 53 construction sites in the vicinity of around 150 square kilometers of Mumbai and nearby areas. The study pointed out the direction of efforts required to make significant improvement in the overall management of construction sites.
