WIRE COATING COMPOSITION OPTIMIZATION USING DESIGN OF EXPERIMENTS

Abstract

A special bronze coating is applied on tyre bead wire. The composition of coating plays a major role in preventing the deterioration of rubber adhesion with wire resulting from stress and heat caused during running of tyre. The Present paper demonstrates the optimization of process parameters in tyre bead wire coating process to achieve desired coating composition using Design of Experiments (DOE) technique. The wire coating is a multistage process which involves various chemical treatments of wire at various stages. The final composition of coating on wire is function of process parameters at various stages thus makes it a complex multi factorial problem. Optimization of process parameters to get best and consistent tin composition under such complex scenario is a challenge. This study demonstrates the systematic use of DOE to analyze the effect of various process parameters on coating and arriving on optimum setting of these parameters to get the desired coating on wire.
