Abstract

Vendor managed inventory (VMI) has been identified as one of the most important strategy to reduce variability in demand pattern throughout the supply chain and to mitigate other associated problems such as bullwhip effect. Present paper explores the importance of VMI implementation towards supply chain effectiveness. Subjective research tools have been used to analyze the problems in systems perspective. Stakeholders and processes involved in effective VMI implementation have been identified through extensive literature review, Further, some of the requisites of VMI implementation have been explored and presented. Classification of Role Players with respect to 'Requisites' has also been undertaken. We have been able to identify the expected role for these role players. Discussions and future research directions have been presented. This paper may help academicians and industry professionals to understand issues involved in VMI implementation better in terms of stakeholders and processes along-with role players, associated requisites and expected role for VMI implementation. Thus, opening new doors for future research and deciding the implementation strategies accordingly.
