Abstract

With Liberisation, Globalization and Privatization introduced in India, industries are facing cut-throat competition for their survival. Now, industries in India need to compete with industries at global level. In order to survive and to remain competitive, newer manufacturing tools and techniques are required. One such tool available is Cellular Manufacturing. Cellular Manufacturing as a manufacturing concept has gained steady interest all over the world and it finds wide applications in industry. Both industry and academicians are currently devoting considerable interest to Cellular Manufacturing Systems. In this paper, an effort has been made to emphasis the importance of Cellular Manufacturing as one of the major significant tools for increasing productivity.
