Abstract
India being the 4th largest polluter of world after US, RUSSIAand CHINAhas now started focusing on use of renewable energy, and also upgrading to strict fuel standards like ban of Bharat Standard (BS)-III fueled vehicles and plan of BS-IV and BS-V already in place. There has been continuous pressure from the regulatory authorities and community to focus on environmental sustainability. Due to all these every organization is on the path of implementation of strategies that would reduce the impact on environment made by the product and services they provide which means taking steps toward sustainability. In the process of following the path of sustainability it becomes necessary to measure how well an organization is performing towards sustainability. This paper will focus on sustainability of industries working on a similar platform and find out relative efficiency or relative performance of organization with respect to the best performing firms on various sustainability parameters. The approach will be based on DATA ENVELOPMENT ANALYSIS (DEA) that will be applied on different DECISION MAKING UNITS (DMU's). It will also help an unsustainable organization to find out parameters that can bridge the gap of sustainability
