Abstract

The manufacturing industry has gone through significant changes in the last decade. Competition has increased dramatically. Customers focus on product quality, product delivery time and cost of product. Because of these, the organization should introduce a maintenance system to improve and increase both quality and productivity continuously. Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) is a methodology that aims to increase the availability of existing equipment hence reducing the need for further capital investment. The aim of this paper is to study the effectiveness and implementation of TPM programme in a manufacturing organization. Through the case study of implementing TPM in a manufacturing organization, the increase in efficiency and productivity of machines in terms of Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) are discussed. On the basis of results a database has been prepared which can be further used.

Keywords- OEE(overall equipment effectiveness),TPM (total productive maintenance), MTBF, MTTR,5's, TPM, kaizen
