Abstract

Currency demonetisation, WannaCry malware attack and the implementation of a unified goods and services tax (GST) system altogether had recuperative effects on the Indian business environment in the last eight months. These unprecedented events have brought drastic changes in the supply chain operationsespecially in the form of disruptions and uncertainties. Currency demonetisation disrupted the financial and material flow through the supply chain whereas, WannaCry malware attack challenged the information security and disrupted the information flow which are considered vital for supply chain performance. Furthermore, implementation of GST system induced dilemma in the costing and sales aspects that again had a negative effect at least in the beginning weeks of July 2017. In total, these issues reflex the vulnerabilities in the Indian supply chains towards environmental stimulus.Furthermore, these incidents confirm the significant role of government in determining the operational efficiency of supply chains. Even though many articles have already discussed the impacts of the above issues on individual business, however, this case study is the first attempt to throw light on the cumulative impacts of these risk factors in the supply chain perspective. The study also reveals the strategies executed by the industries to mitigate the adverse affects of these events.
