Abstract
Mustard straw (Biomass) is produced in large quantities in Northern region of Gujarat. Product to Residue ratio is approximate 1:1.8. Average production is 3 lakh tons/yr. The fleshy part (mesocarp) is either eaten or used to process oil while the straw, neither use as cattle feed nor fuel. So, usually discharged and constitute a waste. In this work Mustard straw were carbonated and used to produce activated carbon by optimizing parameters using RSM study. The Parameters studied in this paper include the effects of types of Activating Agent used for activation, Activation temperature, holding time. The resulting activated carbon was used to adsorb methylene blue dye. Responses were measured for Yield and Maximum methylene blue adsorption.Keywords- Biomass, Activated Carbon, Adsorption, optimization
